DJ Whoo Kid Reveals Snoop Dogg Nearly Signed Joint Deal With G-Unit
DJ Whoo Kid, who is a long time 50 Cent collaborator, recently sat down to do an interview with Jack Thriller for ThisIs50.com. During the interview Whoo Kid spoke about meeting Lil Wayne when he was only 12, meeting Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg for the first time and also spoke about an age-old rumor that Snoop Dogg was going to sign with G-Unit Records back in the day. If you’ll recall, Snoop Dogg appeared on the “G-Mix” to ”P.I.M.P.” with Lloyd Banks and 50 Cent.
Although no recording contract was in the works, Whoo Kid did reveal that a joint venture was in fact a real possibility back in ‘03. He told Jack Thriller, “It was kinda close; it wasn’t like he was gonna sign, he was gonna have like a joint deal with G-Unit…he had joint deals with everybody…but he wanted a G-Unit connection.” He continued to explain, “I was supposed to meet him [Snoop Dogg] in L.A., so I said, ‘I’ma take the ‘P.I.M.P.’ record to Snoop.’ I got Snoop to get on the remix, but it was a freestyle. When I came back to New York and I let Fif hear it, he was like, ‘I’m keeping this, man. This shit is out of here’ and the P.I.M.P. remix became a single…During that time is when he wanted to be like Dogg Pound/G-Unit. It still is though, Snoop ain’t never goin’ no where, he’s with us.” Snoop Lion and 50 Cent recently released their collaborative track “Major Distribution“ back in January which also featured Young Jeezy. The DJ said about the track, “You hear the new record…Snoop is always gonna be different when he has to do a record with Fif’. He always wanted to have the G-Unit connection. Everywhere he goes he still talks G-Unit, he still performs ‘P.I.M.P.’ everywhere, that’s part of his major catalog. Uncle Snoop, I can’t believe I know him.”
